Player of the Year

Jason Farley, Madison, Sr.

The two-time All-Met left-hander helped lead the Warhawks to a national ranking, entering the region tournament with an 8-1 record with 56 strikeouts, nine walks and a 1.20 ERA in 52 2/3 innings, while also batting .371. Will play for Virginia Military Institute.

Coach of the Year

Billy Emerson, Paul VI

The fifth-year coach prodded the Panthers to a 27-4 record, the best in school history, and the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title. His career record at the Fairfax school is 111-41.

First Team

P Eric Cantrell, Oakton, Sr.

The defending state finalists' ace helped the Cougars rattle off 19 straight wins by going 9-2 with a 1.77 ERA, 65 strikeouts and seven walks. Will play for Virginia Tech.

P Sean Chitsaz, Lake Braddock, Sr.

The right-hander went 7-0 with a save for the defending region champions, posted a 1.06 ERA and fanned 85 batters in 46 innings, while walking 14. Will play for Christopher Newport.

P Mike Mitchell, Paul VI, Jr.

The Panthers' top hurler went 8-1 with four shutouts -- including a one-hitter in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship. He struck out 39 and posted a 1.20 ERA.

C Keith Werman, Oakton, Jr.

The Concorde District player of the year batted .559 with 32 runs, 11 stolen bases and no errors to help pace the Cougars to the regular-season district title.
