"I had a memorable run of five shows over a five-week stretch in July and August 1983: Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads, and Elvis Costello and the Attractions on separate bills at Merriweather [Post Pavilion], followed by the Police/R.E.M. and David Bowie at the Cap Centre," says Andrew Baxley,46, a Washington trademark lawyer and (according to Richard Harrington) the most devoted, hard-core concertgoer around.
"Of that bunch, the Talking Heads show stood out," Baxley says. "It was a smart, funky, fun dance party with visuals that begged to be made into a movie. Luckily, they had the good sense to hire Jonathan Demme to make 'Stop Making Sense' from some shows at the end of the tour. Unfortunately, they never toured again after 1983."
