An infant girl was killed today after an electrical fire swept through the bedroom of a Bladensburg apartment where the child was sleeping, Prince George's fire officials said.

The blaze started about 11:30 a.m. in a third floor apartment at the Fountain Park Apartment complex in the 5200 block of Kenilworth Avenue.

The fire was extinguished within minutes after firefighters' arrival, but eight-month-old Evan Semya Turner, was found unconscious in a crib in the apartment.

The infant was taken to a local hospital where she died a short time later, said fire department spokesman Mark Brady.

Investigators believe the fire was started by a short in an electrical outlet in the child's bedroom.
