Ballou Gets New Science Labs
D.C. city and education officials unveiled three science laboratories and a new science classroom at Frank W. Ballou Senior High School in Southeast yesterday.
Students will take biology, chemistry and physics courses in the new labs, which feature fume hoods, a lecture area, wiring for televisions and computers, and desk surfaces that are chemical-resistant. The $1.8 million renovation of the school's existing science wing was completed by D.C. Housing Authority's construction arm, the Construction Services Administration.
The labs will be open for the school year in August.

Ninth-Grader Arrested in Fire
A ninth grade student at H.D. Woodsoon Senior High School was arrested yesterday and accused of setting a student's locker ablaze, officials said.
The male student was caught on camera setting the fire on the third floor about 10:30 a.m., said Audrey Williams, school system spokeswoman.
Students and staff were evacuated to the school's stadium for about an hour and then returned to classes, Williams said.
