A Security Freeze Can Protect Your Credit But Take Some Time to Thaw

· Montana residents can also get a security freeze, and there is no fee for victims. All others can be charged up to $3.

· Residents of New Mexico can get the freeze, with no fee for victims of identity theft or for senior citizens.

· North Dakota consumers can get a freeze, with no fee for identity theft victims. All others may be charged up to $5 to place or temporarily lift a freeze.

· In West Virginia, there also will be no fee for identity theft victims. The bureaus can charge up to $5 for all others to place, remove or lift the freeze.

· And in Wyoming, residents will also be able to get a freeze. There is no fee for identity theft victims.
