After conducting a private workout for Jeff Green yesterday morning, Philadelphia 76ers President Billy King was asked if the Georgetown junior forward is ready for the NBA. King didn't hesitate with his answer: "Yeah, he's ready."

But Green has not said definitively that he is keeping his name in the NBA draft. He still has not hired an agent, a move that would make him ineligible to return to the Hoyas, though the process of interviewing potential agents has begun, according to Coach John Thompson III. Green said that how he fares in these private workouts will help influence his decision; King said that he was impressed with Green's demeanor and his skills for his size (6 feet 9, 228).

"If I come back, we're going to have a chance to win the championship. If I don't, I'm going to have a challenge on my hands to play at the next level," said Green, the Big East player of the year. "Either way, I feel like it's a good decision for me: Come back to a great team with Georgetown, or I can move on and pursue my career in the NBA. It's a tough decision, and I've got to take my time. I'm not going to rush it."

The deadline for underclassmen to withdraw is June 18, 10 days before the draft.

So far Green has worked out for the Chicago Bulls (ninth pick) and the 76ers (12th pick); he has a couple of workouts scheduled for next week at Georgetown, but wouldn't specify with which teams. Six members of the Philadelphia front office and coaching staff came yesterday, including executive vice president Larry Brown and Coach Maurice Cheeks.

"I guess that's a compliment on my side," Green said. "They think I'm a pretty good player and they wanted to see what kind of skills I possess. . . . I'm trying to be in shape because I want to impress these guys. [The workout] went pretty well; I made a couple of shots."
