GOVERNOR'S HEALTH

O'Malley Recovering From Shin Bone Fracture

Gov. Martin O'Malley will govern on crutches for the next six weeks while he recovers from a stress fracture in the shin bone of his right leg. He suffered it while running on a treadmill, his office said today.

It is unclear when the tibia fractured, but the governor was limping last week. He sought medical help Thursday at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where the fracture was diagnosed by Dr. Andrew Cosgarea, director of the Division of Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery. O'Malley (D) is not in a cast.

Spokesman Rick Abbruzzese said the governor does not expect the crutches to slow him down. Yesterday, he attended the annual Patuxent River Wade-In in St. Mary's County.

O'Malley works out several times a week at one of the Merritt Athletic Clubs in the state.

MONTGOMERY CRIME

Bail Bond Business in Rockville Is Set on Fire

The Rockville office of a bail bond agency was set on fire early yesterday morning, Montgomery County officials said.

Firefighters responded to Pantazes Bonding Agency, at 77 S. Washington St., about 2:45 a.m. after the fire alarm in the three-story commercial building was activated, Montgomery Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Pete Piringer said.

"The fire had been extinguished by the sprinkler system" by the time firefighters arrived, Piringer said.
