Meetings in Charles

Two Charles County commissioners have planned constituent meetings.

Both sessions are intended to be forums where residents can voice their concerns. After a brief welcome, the commissioners will take questions and comments from the audience.

· Commissioner Reuben B. Collins II (D-Waldorf) has scheduled a meeting for Commissioner District 3 residents tomorrow from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Capital Clubhouse, 3033 Waldorf Market Place, Waldorf.

· Commissioner Samuel N. Graves Jr. (D-La Plata) has scheduled a meeting for Commissioner District 1 residents on June 25, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Commissioners' Meeting Room of the Charles County Government Building, 200 Baltimore St., La Plata. Doors will open at 6:30.

Wine and Grape Grants

The Governor's Advisory Commission on Maryland Wine and Grape Growing is seeking grant proposals from anyone trying to increase the production of wine grapes in the state.

Grants are made through the Maryland Wine and Grape Promotion Fund, which was established in 2005 to promote the production and consumption of Maryland wine and the production of grapes.

The grant can be used statewide for marketing, research, advertising, retail and festival promotions and educational seminars. Funds available this year total $147,000.

Red Cross Public Meeting

The Southern Maryland Chapter of the American Red Cross has scheduled its annual public meeting, volunteer recognition and country picnic on July 12, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The meeting will be at Summerseat Farm, 26655 Three Notch Rd., Mechanicsville.

A short meeting will include the board of directors election, volunteer recognition and the presentation of the chapter's annual report. A picnic will follow the meeting, with free food and nonalcoholic refreshments.

Camps for Junior Golfers

The Charles County Department of Public Facilities will offer junior golf camps at White Plains Golf Course.

Participants will be introduced to golf rules and etiquette and receive instruction on stance, golf swing, putting, chipping, sand shots and when to use various golf clubs.

Camps for ages 8 to 12 are scheduled for July 10-12 and July 17-19. Camps for ages 13 to 16 are scheduled for July 24-26, July 31 and Aug. 1-2. Classes will meet from 8 to 9 a.m. The cost is $20 per student. Early registration is encouraged. For more information, call 301-645-1300.

Governor's Cup Race

Registration is open for the St. Mary's College of Maryland Governor's Cup Yacht Race, which will be Aug. 3-4 on the Chesapeake Bay.

The Governor's Cup is the oldest and longest overnight race on the bay. The race begins at the entrance of the Annapolis Harbor and finishes the next morning on the shores of the St. Mary's College campus with a post-race party.
