Starting July 1, Virginians who are ticketed for misdemeanor or felony traffic offenses must pay a new fee in addition to existing fines. Out-of-state residents do not have to pay the fees. Below are some examples of the fines that courts usually impose and the mandatory fees the state will add.

Misdemeanor reckless driving (speeding 20 mph over limit) | $200 | $1,050 |
Driving while intoxicated (1st offense) | $300 | $2,250 |
| (2nd offense) | $1,000 | $3,000 |
| Driving under revoked/suspended license | $150 | $750 |
| Operating uninsured vehicle | $50 | $900 |
| Driving without a license | $75 | $900 |
