Holiday Festivities Across The County

Thursday, June 28, 2007

Wednesday is the prime summer holiday, and even though Independence Day falls midweek this year, communities throughout the county are geared up for fun, food and fireworks.

The big event for the area is on the Mall, but plenty is going on in Fairfax.

Mount Vernon, the home of the country's first commander in chief, will have a full schedule of events, including military reenactors, a look at farm life at the time of the country's birth, milling demonstrations, a concert and a wreath-laying ceremony.

Vienna will host arts and crafts, with food and drink for sale, live music, children's games and an antique car show. Then the Vienna Community Band will perform before fireworks.

Herndon's celebration is to feature music, crafts, clowns and bingo, as well as food and a fireworks display.

Fairfax City will be the site of a parade featuring gymnasts, bands and politicians, with food booths, vendors and several performances.

The firehouse in the city will host a firefighter competition, and the high school will have a concert and fireworks.

Falls Church, the Fairfax area's other independent city, will have live music followed by fireworks.

Here's the listing of places to celebrate the Fourth:
