"Arts and Economic Prosperity," a study issued last month by Americans for the Arts, a nonprofit advocacy group, concluded that nonprofit arts and culture ventures are responsible for a lot of money and jobs across the country.
It found that, nationally, they generate $166 billion in annual economic activity and 5.7 million jobs.
The study took a detailed look at Fairfax County and found that the arts:
· Are a $77.5 million industry.
· Support 1,693 jobs.
· Generate $4.59 million in local and state revenue.
Even so, those dollar amounts are well below the national average, which is more than $267 million annually in similar regions with populations over 1 million.
