Friday
Greg Proops continues a run at the DC Improv (202-296-7008). The funnyman, whom you've seen in such places as "The Drew Carey Show" and "Whose Line Is It Anyway?," is there through Sunday evening. . . . Nas, one of the best rappers around, is at Love (202-636-9030). His latest CD may be called "Hip Hop Is Dead," but in reality artists such as Nas keep it alive and vibrant.
MondayA Sunny Day in Glasgow is at DC9 (202-483-5000). The group's poppy noise -- think a lighter version of Jesus and Mary Chain -- can sound a bit chaotic at times, but amid all the swirling sounds it always manages to come together at just the right moment. . . . Morrissey made his name in the legendary group the Smiths, but his solo career has had its share of musical gems. He's at Wolf Trap (877-965-3872). On Tuesday, he'll be at Rams Head Live (410-244-1131) in Baltimore.
ThursdayBrother-sister duo Matt and Eleanor Friedberger are Fiery Furnaces, and they're at Black Cat (202-667-7960). Jason Loewenstein (of Sebadoh fame) is helping out on guitar during this tour. . . . War, the group that created such hits as "Low Rider" and "Why Can't We Be Friends?," is at Rams Head Tavern (410-268-4545). The band's blend of rock, Latin and R&B made it a radio staple in the late '70s. . . . The one and only Aretha Franklin is at Wolf Trap (877-965-3872). Nothing more needs to be said.
