A new report ranks Fairfax, Montgomery and Baltimore counties near the top in graduation rates among the nation's 50 largest school districts, with Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties not far behind. The report also suggests most school districts overstate their graduation rates. The work is based on 2004 data, the latest available from the federal government.
Highest 2004 graduation rates among the nation's 50 largest school districts:
1. Jordan (Salt Lake City area): 88.5%
2. Cypress-Fairbanks (Houston area): 86.9%
3. Jefferson County (Denver area): 81.5%
4. Baltimore County: 81.1%
5. Fairfax County: 80.4%
6. Montgomery County: 80.3%
12. Anne Arundel County: 74.6%
18. Prince George's County: 66.9%
48. Baltimore City: 34.6%
Alexandria: 69.6%
Arlington County: 73.3%
