A woman was shot to death and her husband was wounded last night in a sedate Bowie neighborhood, and Prince George's County police said they are looking for the couple's son.

The shootings, in the 14400 block of Dunwood Valley Drive, apparently followed "some type of family dispute," said Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a county police spokesman.

The son remained at large last night, and police believed he was still armed, Copeland said.

Police did not release the names of the man and his parents. However, they said the assailant apparently fled the scene in a black 2006 Toyota Camry with Maryland tags.

Copeland said others were in the house during the shooting, which occurred about 8 p.m. He said it was not certain that the parents were the ones involved in the dispute that preceded the gunfire. The nature of the disagreement was not immediately known.

Troy Arner, a neighbor, said he was mowing his lawn when an apparently highly agitated man approached and said one of his relatives had been shot. Arner said he called 911. Others at the scene said they understood that one of those shot was a neighbor. Police could not confirm this.

Arner said he had heard nothing. Another neighbor reported hearing two gunshots. One neighbor who said he had lived there for a dozen years called the violence a first.
