Sites Don't Push Registration
Only four of the 19 Web sites of the presidential candidates have information or tools about voter registration, a study by the Project for Excellence in Journalism found.
The study details the role that official campaign sites play in informing voters of a candidate's positions on issues. The sites have become a destination for campaign news, the study found, and candidates are participating in a two-way dialogue with voters through blogging, fundraising and social networking.
"There's a multilevel conversation taking place between the candidates and their potential voters, and what's even more interesting is that potential voters online are continuing their actions offline," said Amy S. Mitchell, the project's deputy director.
