Washington Humane Society Appoints President
Lisa LaFontaine has been appointed president and chief executive of the Washington Humane Society. LaFontaine, former chief executive of the Monadnock Humane Society in New Hampshire, will take over the city's animal-care system Aug. 1.
LaFontaine was chosen by the society's board after a three-month nationwide search.
"The Washington Humane Society has landed a true superstar to serve as president and CEO. Lisa's vision, energy and professionalism will be a tremendous asset for our entire community -- and especially for the animals that we care for," board Chairman Jay Timmons said.
LaFontaine led the transformation of the Monadnock Humane Society into a leading regional agency, helping it to become one of the premier animal welfare organizations in the Northeast, Timmons said. Her plans for the District include building a state-of-the-art animal shelter and moving ahead with the newly launched "Good Home Guarantee," a five-year plan that aims to find a home for every adoptable dog and cat.
