Dog Keeps Baby Boy From Dangerous Rattle

· Zoey might be a Chihuahua, but she has the heart of a lion.

When a rattlesnake lunged at her owners' year-old grandson, the long-haired dog sprang into action. Booker West was splashing his hands in a birdbath in the family's yard in Masonville, Colorado, when the snake slithered up, rattled and struck.

Five-pound Zoey jumped in the way and took the bites.

For a time it appeared the dog might not survive the injuries she suffered earlier this month.

"These little bitty dogs, they just don't really get credit," Booker's grandmother said.

Zoey is back home, prancing around as if nothing special had happened.

Time Is Running Out To Get in 'Shapes'

· If you haven't entered the "Shapes in Architecture" photo contest, the Aug. 10 deadline is fast-approaching.

The Washington Architectural Foundation contest is for kids ages 8 to 13. This year's theme has young photographers looking for circles, triangles and other shapes in buildings.

The winning entries, chosen by a panel of pro photographers, will appear in KidsPost. For contest details, call 202-667-5444 or go to http://www.wafonline.org.
