The MLS schedule is at the halfway point, while the Mexican league is preparing for its season openers Aug. 4-5.

United has gone three games without a victory -- 1-0 losses to Houston and New York sandwiched around a 3-3 tie with Dallas in which United relinquished a three-goal lead in the second half -- and will again be without the ailing Jaime Moreno, Bryan Namoff, Guy-Roland Kpene and Justin Moose.

Olsen returns from a yellow card suspension, but Soehn will still have to rely on players who have underperformed in recent weeks.

"It's set up for us to do well and I think we are ready," defender Bobby Boswell said. "Our form has not been great, but it can change on any given day, in any given half -- just look at what happened against Dallas."

Morelia, which is owned by TV Azteca and is the least accomplished of the Mexican SuperLiga entries with just one league championship, has undergone significant offseason change and will unveil a revamped defense. Fernando Arce, fresh off Mexican national team appearances at the Gold Cup and Copa America, anchors the midfield and Luis Angel Landin, a 21-year-old forward acquired from defending league champion Pachuca, has been added to the front line.

The opportunity to face Mexican teams in this tournament is added incentive for MLS's American players, many of whom have helped the U.S. national team establish control of the rivalry with Mexico.

"In soccer, U.S.-Mexico on any level is a bigger deal, and it's going to be a great opportunity for MLS teams because we are in-season and we are at home," Olsen said. "It's important for us to take advantage of this tournament. And if we don't win it, hopefully some other MLS team does."
