Metro's Orange Line service was disrupted for about three hours today after a 64-year-old Arlington woman was struck and killed by a six-car train at the Ballston-MU Metrorail station, Metro officials said.

The train was traveling outbound toward the Vienna Metrorail Station at 9:38 a.m. when the woman was hit. Preliminary reports indicate that the woman, whose name was not released, intentionally placed herself in the path of the train, officials said. Police are investigating.

Metro closed the Ballston and the Virginia Square-GMU stations for about three hours, re-opening at 12:32 p.m. Metro used 16 buses to shuttle passengers between the East Falls Church and Clarendon Metrorail stations.
