Tan White scored 20 points to lead the Indiana Fever to a 66-57 victory over the Washington Mystics last night in Indianapolis.

Alana Beard had 15 points and DeLisha Milton-Jones scored 12 for the Mystics (10-15), who lost all four regular season games to Indiana this season. Washington remained one game behind Chicago in the race for the Eastern Conference's fourth and final playoff spot.

Tamika Whitmore added 17 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for the Fever (17-10), which never trailed in snapping its six-game losing streak. The Fever won for the first time since losing all-star Tamika Catchings to a left foot injury July 20 against Detroit.

The Fever, which led by six at halftime, took its biggest lead of the game, 50-36, on Whitmore's jumper to end the third.

Milton-Jones's layup helped Washington close to 54-46 with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter, but the Fever responded with three straight free throws to extend the lead back to 11.

· SHOCK 84, SILVER STARS 79: Reserve Plenette Pierson scored 22 points to lead Detroit (21-6) to a road win in a matchup of conference leaders. Becky Hammon led San Antonio (16-9) with 26 points.

· SUN 74, SKY 56: Katie Douglas scored 18 points and Asjha Jones had 16 points and nine rebounds in Connecticut's defeat of visiting Chicago (12-15). It was the third consecutive victory for the Sun (15-12), which went 9-2 in July.

· SPARKS 73, LIBERTY 63: Mwadi Mabika scored 19 points as Los Angeles (9-16) handed New York (10-15) its season-high seventh straight loss.

· MONARCHS 78, STORM 74: Nicole Powell scored 28 points and Sacramento (15-10) beat host Seattle to move within one game of first place in the Western Conference. Lauren Jackson had 30 points, 8 rebounds and 7 blocks to lead the Storm (13-14).

· MERCURY 76, COMETS 74: Diana Taurasi scored 19 points and fueled a late comeback as Phoenix (17-10) swept its season series with Houston (8-18).
