A partially dressed, would-be robber who shimmied into a Southeast Washington bank through the roof was scared off Tuesday night by the bank's cleaning crew, police said.

Once the cleaners spotted him inside the M&T Bank, in the 2800 block of Alabama Ave SE, he scampered off through the ceiling, said Capt. Mike Reese. He left behind some tools, and it appeared that he tried to break into a filing cabinet, Reese said. Nothing was stolen.

The intruder was wearing dark-colored boxer or biking shorts and a white jacket, but no socks or shoes, police said. Investigators found clothing on the roof of the bank. A restaurant next door, the Tropicana, was also burglarized Tuesday night, and money was stolen.

D.C. police are asking the public's help in finding a missing 15-year-old girl who was last seen Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Tyesha Renee Smith was last seen in the 900 block of 19th Street NE wearing a white skirt and a pink and green shirt, authorities said.

Police describe her as a five-foot-five, 105-pound black teen with brown eyes and black hair. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 202-727-9099. Her picture is on the Metropolitan Police Department Web site.
