Transit Center Delays

Construction of the transit center in Silver Spring has been delayed, so MARC has scrapped plans to close its Silver Spring ticket office this month. Also, the Metro and Ride On bus stops will not be moved out of the Metro station area and onto the streets until the spring.

South Capitol Roadwork

The District is resurfacing South Capitol Street between Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. avenues. The work, scheduled to be completed by Sept. 30, will go on from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. At least one lane will be open in each direction.

511 Improved

The Virginia Department of Transportation has upgraded its version of the 511 phone travel information system to improve menus, information and a voice-recognition system for travelers who want to get reports about congestion, construction and transportation alternatives. Dial 511 from any phone in the state. From outside Virginia, the toll-free number is 866-695-1182.

Grosvenor Lane Detour

The Maryland State Highway Administration added signs last week that make it easier for drivers along Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda to get around the Grosvenor Lane Bridge, which is closed to vehicles until Aug. 29 for rehabilitation.
