The Washington Wizards announced the signing of second-round pick Dominic McGuire yesterday. Terms of the contract were not disclosed but McGuire, a 6-foot-8 forward from Fresno State, agreed to a three-year deal with the Wizards holding an option on the third year.
McGuire will make the league minimum of $427,163 this season and the contract is guaranteed. The signing of McGuire, who averaged 12.0 points and 6.2 rebounds in five games during the Las Vegas summer league, means the Wizards have 11 players under contract.
"We were very pleased with what we saw from Dominic in summer league," Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld said. "He is extremely athletic, very competitive and is a good rebounder. Dominic is a solid overall defensive player who plays with great energy."
The team also has the option of signing restricted free agent forward Andray Blatche and has invited former Virginia Tech point guard Brian Chase to training camp. Chase also played on the summer league team.
Negotiations with Blatche apparently have stalled after his arrest for solicitation on Aug. 2. Grunfeld also is finalizing the trade of guard Juan Carlos Navarro to the Memphis Grizzlies for a conditional first-round pick.
The Wizards and Grizzlies have agreed to terms of a trade but the deal won't be official until negotiations and paperwork have been completed between the Grizzlies and Navarro's team in Spain, FC Barcelona.
