Former All-Met basketball player Nigel Munson, in line to be the starting point guard at Virginia Tech this coming season, plans to enroll instead at a Washington area community college with the intention of eventually transferring to George Washington, according to a source with detailed knowledge of the situation.
Munson, a 2006 All-Met at DeMatha, wanted to transfer to a school closer to the Washington area. But a release from his scholarship granted by Virginia Tech prohibited him from transferring directly to George Washington.
Instead, Munson plans to attend a community college, where he would be able to then choose a college without restriction. Munson does not plan to play college basketball during the 2007-08 season, essentially treating it as a redshirt season, the source said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because Munson has not spoken publicly about his plans.
Munson then would have three seasons of eligibility remaining. Attempts to reach Munson yesterday were unsuccessful.
