Two women were shot, one fatally, in Southeast Washington early this morning, and a third woman was arrested and charged with fatally stabbing a man in a separate incident less than two miles away, D.C. police said.

The double shooting was reported about 2 a.m., in the 3700 block of Bangor Street SE near the Prince George's County line, D.C. police spokesman Joe Gentile said.

One woman -- who was not identified -- was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds outside a building. A second woman, a 24-year-old Virginia resident, had also been shot more than once and was flown by helicopter to a local hospital in critical condition, Gentile said. Her name was not released.

Police said they have no suspects and know of no motive in the attack.

About 2:20 a.m., 27-year-old Michael Whitfield was stabbed to death in the 2700 block of Langston Place SE, Gentile said.

Police said Whitfield, of the 2900 block of Knox Place SE, apparently had argued with Norma Vaughn, also 27, of the 2600 block of Langston Place.

Vaughn was arrested at the scene and charged with second-degree murder while armed. Police said the investigation is continuing.
