It's safe to go back out on the Beltway on the Virginia side of the American Legion Bridge. The inner loop lane that had been closed for most of the spring and summer -- the one that caused enormous delays on the Beltway, George Washington Parkway and other area roads -- is again open, according to Maryland State Highway Administration officials. It had been a staging ground for equipment used as part of a $5.6 million effort to clean, repair and repaint the rusting span, but it is back doing what it was built to do: move traffic.
