Camilla's Retreat

Prince Charles's wife announced Sunday that she will not attend a service marking the 10th anniversary of the death of Princess Diana after criticism that her presence would be inappropriate.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, had accepted an invitation from Charles and his sons, Princes William and Harry, to accompany them to the service Friday at the Guards' Chapel in London's Wellington Barracks. Some criticized the decision, since Camilla had an affair with Charles when he was still married to Diana.

Hard-core Diana fans, who accuse Camilla of destroying Diana's marriage, were relieved. "I couldn't be happier if I'd won the lottery," said Joan Berry, secretary of the Diana Appreciation Society.

Diana died in a Paris car crash with her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, on Aug. 31, 1997.

Dog Days for DMX

It's no secret that rapper and actor DMX likes dogs -- or does he? His last two album titles, "Year of the Dog . . . Again" and "The Definition of X: The Pick of the Litter," suggest his affinity for man's best friend, as does the tattoo across his back that reads "Pit Bull." But deputies searching the rapper's Phoenix home Friday during an investigation into claims of animal cruelty might say otherwise.

A half-pound of suspected illegal narcotics was discovered, a dozen pit bulls were seized, the bodies of three dogs were dug up in the yard and a variety of assault-style weapons were taken from the home, Sheriff Joe Arpaio said.

No charges have been filed or arrests made. However, E! reported that detectives would like to question the 36-year-old rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons. DMX's lawyer, Murray Richman , said the rapper hadn't been at his home for two months and was "extremely disturbed" to learn his dogs had been maltreated.

The larger-than-life reality TV star appeared on the second season of "Flavor of Love," VH1's dating game show starring Flavor Flav of the rap group Public Enemy. Windsor was also the winner of "Charm School," a spinoff of "Flavor of Love" that pitted ex-Flavettes against one another in competition for the title of "Charm School Queen" (and $50,000).

Singleton's Car Hits Pedestrian

Oscar-nominated director John Singleton was driving a Lexus SUV when it struck and killed a jaywalker who stepped in front of the car, police said Friday.

Singleton, 39, immediately stopped his car and waited for police to arrive after the accident Thursday night in Los Angeles's Jefferson Park neighborhood, said Officer Jason Lee, a police spokesman.
