Robinson senior running back Peter Ferrara estimated he carried the ball 50 times last season when he played for Langley. He received half that many carries last night and made the most of each, rushing for four touchdowns and catching a pass for a fifth in a surprising 41-14 home victory over No. 18 Stone Bridge.
Ferrara, who transferred to Robinson last November and played baseball for the Rams last spring, scored on runs of 6, 14, 7 and 24 yards and on a 30-yard pass in accounting for 206 offensive yards.
Robinson racked up 396 yards on the ground and broke open a tie game, scoring on its first three possessions of the third quarter.
"I had no idea," Ferrara said when asked if he thought he would get the opportunity in a successful program with no shortage of ballcarriers. "I just worked my way up the ladder, and that's what happened. I had no idea it would be anything like this. But I'm just happy to be here."
The feeling is mutual. The Rams not only gained a talented running back -- Ferrara scored twice last week against Lake Braddock -- but a kicker and punter as well.
"He's a real good fit in our scheme with the misdirection, which gets him in space and is able to create some one-on-one situations," Robinson Coach Mark Bendorf said. "As you can see, in the open field, he's tough to handle. Our job is to spring him."
Robinson (2-0) broke open the game in the third quarter thanks in part to Stone Bridge's unsuccessful try of an onside kick to start the second half. Sophomore linebacker Brian Laiti recovered a fumble to set up the second touchdown that period following a 75-yard drive, and the third score required only 39 yards to reach the end zone.
The Bulldogs (1-1) made it 28-14 when junior quarterback Patrick Thompson and senior Matt Irwin hooked up on a 66-yard catch and run two plays into the fourth quarter. Stone Bridge held Robinson, but on the Bulldogs' next possession, the Rams sacked Thompson three times, including on fourth and long, to set up a 20-yard scoring drive.
An 87-yard jaunt in the final minutes, after an interception by senior David Strange, more than sealed the victory.
"We had a few opportunities to get back in the game, and every time it was somebody making a mistake," Stone Bridge Coach Mickey Thompson said. "I didn't do a good job coaching, and they didn't do a good job playing. The second half, they just took it to us."

Who's That Guy?: Stone Bridge Coach Mickey Thompson faced Robinson running back Peter Ferrara when Ferrara was at Langley last year. Did he remember him? "Not like that," Thompson said.
