Cyclist Killed in Collision With SUV

A bicyclist was killed yesterday morning when he was hit by a sport-utility vehicle in downtown Washington, D.C. police said.

They said a man on a bike was crossing 14th Street NW at K Street when he was hit by a 1999 Honda Passport about 9:15 a.m.

Police have not released the cyclist's name, pending notification of his family. They said the driver of the SUV was Carlos Bayona, 18, of the 1400 block of P Street NW. No charges had been filed yesterday evening.

The bicyclist was taken to George Washington University Hospital and pronounced dead about an hour after the crash. The police department's major crashes unit is investigating the accident.

NW Man, Fatally Shot, Found in Car

The body of a man who had been shot in the head was found by police who were investigating a car crash in Southeast Washington on Saturday, a D.C. police spokesman said yesterday.

At 6:18 p.m. Saturday, police responded to reports of a car hitting a parked vehicle in the 2200 block of Prout Street, Sgt. Joe Gentile said. When they got there, they found a 23-year-old man in the driver's seat. He had a gunshot wound to the head and showed no signs of life, Gentile said. The man was pronounced dead by the medical examiner's office.

Police identified the dead man as Marvin Leon Carter of the 1400 block of Spring Road NW.
