FIRST DOWN

Keep It Simple

The Redskins' winning formula is well established, though not universally applied. Stick with the run, even if it's slow going at first, allow Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts to get in a rhythm and rush 40 times if at all possible. The Eagles will try to make this game a shootout, and time of possession and number of carries will be essential for Washington.

SECOND DOWN

The Hot Corner

Gregg Williams's defense is designed to put tremendous pressure on one corner, and the Redskins expect Eagles QB Donovan McNabb to take aim repeatedly at CB Fred Smoot. He may end up needing more help from a linebacker or safety than is the norm in their cover-3 zone, and McNabb surely will test him 40 to 50 yards downfield.

THIRD DOWN

Diversify the Pass

Jason Campbell is a 20-attempt quarterback at this stage, and it's rare that more than one wide receiver has a big day. Getting Antwaan Randle El and Santana Moss to latch onto the deep ball in the same game would be a treat, and look for Washington to take its chances downfield. Campbell needs to be in sync with his safety valves quickly against a ferocious blitz.

FOURTH DOWN

Where's Westbrook?

Miami had little aerial thrust on Sept. 9, but found much success with five- to 10-yard passes to its tailbacks. No runner catches the ball better than Philadelphia's Brian Westbrook, who routinely turns screen passes into huge gains. Washington's linebackers cannot afford to drop too deep in coverage and create a gap between them and the linemen.
