Meet the Authors
Jennifer L. Holm knows that kids don't always have time to tackle weighty material. Neither does she -- either as a reader or a writer.[an error occurred while processing this directive]
"I haven't slept more than three hours in a night in months," says the mother of two kids, ages 3 months and 4 years. "So the only thing I get through now is comic books. I've always read lots of comic books."
Holm appreciates all kinds of writing: "I read serious literary fiction, comic books, People magazine, newspapers online. I read the back of the cereal box. It doesn't matter as long as you're reading."
She will be among some 70 authors featured Saturday at the National Book Festival, a free event on the Mall between Seventh and 14th streets. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Holm will talk about her books and answer questions at the Teens & Children Pavilion from 10:40 to 11:10 a.m. She will sign books from noon until 1 p.m.
The book festival, sponsored by the Library of Congress, will have more than a dozen children's authors, including Maria Celeste Arrarás, Gail Carson Levine, Patricia MacLachlan, Mercer Mayer, Jack Prelutsky, Rosemary Wells and Gene Luen Yang.
