PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY
Superintendent of Jail Stepping Down
Prince William County's jail superintendent will step down at the end of the year for health reasons, officials said yesterday.
Charles "Skip" Land gave his resignation Wednesday to the jail board, which oversees the Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center, according to a news release. The board chose Maj. Peter Meletis to serve as acting superintendent after Land's Dec. 31 departure.
Land has worked for the jail for more than 25 years, serving as superintendent the last four. This year, the jail was the first in the region to participate in a program that gives jail staff immigration enforcement authority.
