First Quarter

Monday, October 22, 2007

The teams traded punts to start the game, with Arizona's Matt Ware giving the Cardinals excellent field position by blocking Derrick Frost's offering. But the Cardinals gave the ball back almost immediately on a Sean Taylor interception; his 48-yard return gave Washington the ball at the Arizona 25-yard line. A methodical eight-play drive ended with Clinton Portis's two-yard touchdown run, his fourth of the season. Quarterback Jason Campbell threw two passes on the drive. Arizona moved the ball well on its ensuing possession, but the drive fizzled after an illegal block, the team's fourth penalty of the quarter.
