The ghosts of Sweet Briar: There seem to be only two, but they're everywhere.

This Story

Since the college opened, founder Indiana Fletcher Williams and her daughter, Daisy, have been making spectral appearances or causing goose-bumpy goings-on all over campus, or so the stories go. Here's how they've made their presence known:

* A chandelier in Sweet Briar House (at right) going on and off by itself. Daisy playing?

* A moving cloud appearing in Sweet Briar House's pier mirrors.

* The strings of Daisy's harp in Sweet Briar House vibrating on their own.

* A college curator hearing a low, disembodied laugh after she identified an unsigned photograph as a rare image of Indiana Williams.

* The sounds of moving furniture coming from an unoccupied dorm room.

Hear more during the college's annual ghost tours Friday through Wednesday, starting at 5 and 6 p.m. Admission $5. Call the Sweet Briar Museum (434-381-6246) for info.
