During our online chat (most Mondays at 2 p.m.), you ask and we answer your travel questions -- mostly. Here's one we couldn't get to last week.

I'm Australia-bound, specifically, Byron Bay, the easternmost point on the continent. We want to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef via Heron Island. Is that drivable?

For visitors to Heron Island, the reef could hardly be more convenient. The same can't be said for the island itself. The closest a car will get -- mercifully, when you think about it -- is the seacoast town of Gladstone, which is more than 300 miles north of Brisbane and almost 900 miles north of Sydney. Once there, you have the choice of a two-hour ferry ride (note: there's just one sailing a day) or a 30-minute helicopter flight that must be booked in advance.
