STAYING THERE: We stayed at the Clarion Hotel Morgan (127 High St., 304-292-8200, http://www.clarionhotelmorgan.com), a grand old building constructed in 1921. It's at the tip of downtown Morgantown and has big, clean rooms. Rates start at $99 on weekdays.

EATING THERE: The Boston Beanery (321 High St.) has a big menu of such pub food as wings and bacon cheeseburgers ($7.50). The Vintage Room (467 Chestnut St.) is a more upscale option, with a big wine cellar and lots of adult-oriented entrees (New York strip steak, $28). The Blue Moose Cafe (248 Walnut St.) is an artsy coffeehouse and popular breakfast spot; cheese omelets go for $4.50.
