Kathy Warye and Robert Mandel are proof that you don't have to wander far afield to have a great weekend. The couple went urban a year and a half ago after moving from McLean to an 1887 rowhouse in Logan Circle. Mandel says: "It is such a pleasure to live in a vibrant, growing urban environment where we can walk everywhere. . . . There is a much more of a neighborhood feel here than we ever felt in McLean. . . . We usually indulge ourselves going out to dinner in the 'hood Friday and Saturday nights."

Favorite haunts include Cafe Saint-Ex, Creme Cafe, Logan Tavern ("a fun place to fall into," Mandel says) and Sushi Taro. The couple logs serious steps on their pedometers, pointing out that "Dupont Circle (Bistrot du Coin is a trip to the Left Bank) and even Penn Quarter (our new favorite is Proof) are walkable as well."

On Saturdays, they like to bike along the C&O Canal and stop for lunch in Georgetown. There are no Sunday blues for this couple, who make a morning trip to the Dupont Circle FreshFarm Market (open year-round) to get vittles for the week. "Food, drink, fun and great neighbors every weekend!" Mandel says.

So our suggestion for this weekend is to hang in a neighborhood -- whether its Mandel and Warye's or your own!

How do you spend your weekend?

If you have a great idea, Weekend wants to know about it. Tell us in 75 fun-filled words (or fewer) what events you wouldn't miss and we may feature your pick on our "Weekend's Best" page. Remember, because of deadlines, it doesn't help to tell us what you're doing this weekend, but next weekend or further out would be great.

Deadline is noon Tuesday. E-mail them to weekend@washpost.com. Include your name, address and a daytime phone number.
