NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell informed Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones yesterday that he will serve out his entire suspension for the 2007 season.
[an error occurred while processing this directive]Jones had met with the commissioner last week in New York, pleading for some leniency and an early return. But the cornerback didn't persuade Goodell.
The commissioner told Jones his suspension will last through this season, which would include the playoffs if the Titans (6-2) qualify.
Attorney Worrick Robinson said Jones received a letter from the NFL notifying him of the commissioner's decision earlier yesterday. They planned to talk further last night and a formal statement may follow today.
Jags' Stroud Suspended
Jaguars defensive tackle Marcus Stroud was suspended without pay by the NFL for four games for violating the league's steroids and related substances policy.
Stroud, a three-time Pro Bowl lineman, admitted last week that he had taken supplements following offseason micro-fracture surgery on his right ankle.
He said he was no longer taking the supplements, adding that he didn't plan to appeal the league's suspension.
K. Detmer Joins Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings signed Koy Detmer to serve as an insurance policy for a banged-up group of quarterbacks. Detmer, who is in his 10th season in the league, was on the Eagles' roster for all seven of Vikings Coach Brad Childress's years in Philadelphia. Childress worked with Detmer first as a quarterbacks coach and then as an offensive coordinator. . . .
The Carolina Panthers placed Dan Morgan on injured reserve, ending another frustrating season for the oft-injured middle linebacker. The Panthers promoted fullback Billy Latsko from the practice squad to take Morgan's place on the 53-man roster. The team also signed quarterback Drew Olson to the practice squad to provide depth with David Carr and Vinny Testaverde banged up. . . .
LeCharles Bentley will not play this season for the Browns. Cleveland's center, who has yet to play for his hometown Browns because of a serious knee injury, will remain on the reserve-physically unable to perform list, the team said. . . .
