About 120 Brownie Girl Scouts converged on the Sandy Spring Friends Meetinghouse on Saturday to bake loaves of bread from scratch to deliver to local heroes as a tribute to their contributions to the community.
The Brownies, members of Service Unit 31-2, produced about 140 loaves of bread during four hours of baking. Most were delivered Saturday to firefighters and volunteers at Montgomery General Hospital, Olney Library and other organizations.
Their effort was part of the international Spread the Bread campaign, which encourages people, particularly youth, to bake bread to honor heroes.
