EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Nov. 8 -- Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas had his surgically repaired left knee drained of excess fluid on Wednesday morning and said he felt immediately better. After Thursday's game, however, the three-time all star may be considering further precautions.

According to a report on TNT's NBA broadcast Thursday night, Arenas is thinking about having an MRI exam on the knee and also may consider asking Wizards Coach Eddie Jordan to cut his minutes.

Arenas made no mention of a possible MRI exam when he spoke with reporters before Thursday night's 87-85 loss at New Jersey. He also said he would continue playing his normal allotment of minutes as long as the knee felt as it did on Thursday evening.

Arenas complained that the knee felt "tight" following Saturday's home loss to Orlando, and he sat out of practice on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Before, I was going hard because I didn't feel any pain so I wasn't icing it like I should have been," Arenas said. "When you don't feel any pain, you think everything is just normal. Now I know what I have to do. I have to keep up my strength exercises, my flexibility exercises, ice and stay off it as much as possible."

Arenas finished with 21 points, playing 42 minutes 34 seconds on Thursday night. Following the game, he said the knee felt "fine" but also said he was curious to see how it would feel Friday morning.

"I'm going to get it in some ice and we'll see how it is after this flight home," Arenas said.

Arenas also had the knee drained on Oct. 17.

Iverson Returns to D.C.

The Wizards host the Denver Nuggets on Friday night in the first of two meetings between the teams. Denver (2-3) is coming off an ugly 119-93 loss at Boston on Wednesday night.

The Wizards and Nuggets split a pair of meetings last season, with the Wizards winning, 120-91, at Verizon Center on Dec. 13 and the Nuggets winning, 117-108, on Dec. 18 in Denver. However, Friday's game will mark the teams' first meeting since the Nuggets acquired Allen Iverson.

Iverson, who starred at Georgetown and makes regular visits to Washington, should have plenty of motivation following Wednesday's loss in Boston.

"I don't think I've ever been beat that bad," he told reporters after the game.
