Wilde Lake junior goalkeeper Grace Koplow had seven saves.
"They are special not because they are winning, but because of what they are doing to prepare," Wilde Lake Coach Dave Procida said. "We've got three starters down and these kids have picked up their game and their intensity."
Poolesville Boys on a Roll
The Poolesville boys' soccer team entered the 1A Maryland playoffs with a 4-7-1 record and a No. 9 seed. Four straight wins -- including last night's 2-1 victory over Bohemia Manor -- have the Falcons headed to just their second state final in program history.
"Basically the regular season, how well you did or how bad you did it doesn't matter," said Matt Capozzi, who scored Poolesville's second goal. "You have one game to prove yourself. You have to give it everything or you're going home."
Poolesville's Mark Fales scored on a penalty kick in the fifth minute and Capozzi's goal, assisted by Joseph McHale, came in the 30th minute off a header. Poolesville, who will play the winner of Pocomoke and Owings Mills, is looking for its first state championship.
Poolesville had three double-overtime losses during the regular season and two losses by one goal.
McHale attributed the team's turnaround to some position changes and improved health later in the season.
"I knew we had a good team all year," McHale said. "We just had to jell together as a team."
