Philadelphia seemed to be stopped on its initial series, but the Eagles got a second chance after an illegal-contact penalty on Fred Smoot yielded a first down. Aided by another penalty -- a pass interference call against London Fletcher -- the Eagles capped the 11-play drive with Brian Westbrook catching a four-yard touchdown pass. After gaining two first downs, Washington was forced to punt on its first drive. But on the ensuing possession, the Redskins' defense reversed the momentum when Demetric Evans forced an L.J. Smith fumble, and Rocky McIntosh recovered in Eagles territory. After a first down, Washington had the ball on the Eagles 13-yard line as the quarter ended.
