Rock Cartwright's 26-yard kickoff return gave Washington good field position to start the half. Three straight plays involving Clinton Portis moved the Redskins to the Eagles 32-yard line. The drive continued inside the Philadelphia 10-yard line, but Mike Sellers was stopped on third and one, forcing Washington to settle for a 23-yard Suisham field goal. Philadelphia then marched 70 yards, sparked by a successful Donovan McNabb sneak on a fourth and one from the Eagles 39. McNabb capped the drive with a eight-yard scoring pass to tight end Smith to bring the Eagles within two points, but McNabb's conversion attempt to Hank Baskett was off target.
