MONTGOMERY COUNTY

2 Shot Outside Shady Grove Station

Two people were shot last night as they exited a bus in a parking area of the Shady Grove Metro station, authorities said.

As passengers disembarked from the bus about 9 p.m., shots were fired from an area where a group of people had been standing, said Candace Smith, a spokeswoman for Metro.

One person was shot in the hand. A second was wounded in the leg. The injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, said Pete Piringer, a Montgomery County fire and rescue spokesman.

Authorities think the shooter and companions might have left the scene by catching another bus. "It's happened before where the bus has been a getaway vehicle," Smith said.

Authorities said they stopped a Ride On bus, removed passengers and uncovered a gun.
