On that ominous day in January 2004 when the GOP board took over, I challenged my fellow Republicans to "listen and work with their opponents." One lady came to the mike and simply said -- "moderation, moderation, moderation." They ignored us. I sincerely hope the new board won't repeat the same mistake.

Well, here we go . . . the search for deep meaning from tiny changes in election results. A few seats change parties in Richmond, and all the fortune-tellers on all sides want us to believe that there is some great message.
In Loudoun, the ridiculous frothing at the mouth about growth continues. Intelligent people laugh at this. Remind me again: What growth exactly are you against? People? Homes for people to live in? Prosperity?
Can members of the anti-growth crowd tell us where exactly they want people to go and live? Can they tell us why they have a right to live in Loudoun, but for other people there is no room at the inn? If you believe there are too many people in Loudoun, isn't it your responsibility to leave?
Developers cannot make one dime -- and would lose their shirts -- except that there are people who want somewhere to live. So, where do you suggest they should live? In the gutter?
It is astonishing to see bleeding-heart hypocritical liberals (some calling themselves Republicans and pretending to be moderates) showing such contempt for other people, over and over. Is it conservatives who are intensely selfish and self-centered . . . or the no-growth liberals?
