There's a lot you can do to remain productive even if would-be employers aren't available to see you this time of year. Here's what Louise Kursmark, a career consultant, recommends:

• If things slow down, use the time to refresh your wardrobe and appearance.

• Polish and practice your self-introduction and other messages, and get ready to hit the ground running after the holidays.

• Be prepared to interview on short notice. Some managers might have more time during the holidays and be more receptive to meeting.
