BIO: Born July 23, 1928, in San Francisco; a resident of Baltimore since 1959.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: A student of the legendary Artur Schnabel, who was the first person to record all of the Beethoven sonatas and stood for the highest intellectual aspirations in the music world. Made his own splendid piano recordings of works by Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms and others while a young man and has recently begun making records again. Named "Instrumentalist of the Year" by Musical America in 1994 and awarded the Johns Hopkins President's Medal.

CAREER LOWLIGHTS: Unable to play with his right hand for three decades.
