Beginning Wednesday against Cleveland and ending Jan. 2 against Detroit, the Washington Wizards will play nine of 13 games at Verizon Center, where they are 4-3 this season.

"We have to take advantage of it," Wizards Coach Eddie Jordan said. "We have to take it one day at a time, improve in practice. We just can't get ahead of ourselves. We just can't say, 'Okay, we can plug in some wins here or some wins there and feel comfortable.' "

The Wizards survived playing 10 of their first 17 games on the road, going just 4-6. But that record is by no means appalling, considering the Wizards lost their first eight games on the road last season, and didn't win their fourth road game until Dec. 21, at Sacramento.

At 8-9, the Wizards are tied for the seventh-best record in the Eastern Conference, but Antawn Jamison wishes it were slightly better. "The Philly game really set us back," Jamison said of Friday's one-point loss to the 76ers. "It would've been phenomenal to end [November] at .500 and get some home cooking."

After playing four sets of back-to-back games already, the team will only play two such sets in December. The favorable stretch of games will allow the injury-riddled team time to rest between games.

Jordan said the first month of the season taught him a lot about his team. "We had some high moments and some disappointing moments, but through it all we gave ourselves a chance to win some games," he said. "If you play hard, care about defense and stay organized offensively, you can give yourself a chance and we're getting that every night. Some nights you are not going to win, some nights you are."
