15 Teens Will Be Hired as Aides On Part-Time Basis in 2008
The D.C. Public Library is accepting applications from District teenagers ages 16 to 19 for a program called Jobs 4 Teens.
Fifteen teens will be hired in 2008 to work as aides. They will shelve books, assist customers and answer phones. The program could be expanded to employ 100 teens by 2009.
The positions will pay $10.20 an hour, and teens will work up to 12 hours a week after school and on weekends.
Applicants must be District residents and maintain a 2.5 or higher grade-point average.

"We are eager for teens to work at DCPL, as they will be able to learn about the many facets of their public library," Ginnie Cooper, chief librarian, said.
"Many teens already spend hours here reading, doing homework, participating in programs or just meeting with friends," she said. "Through this new work opportunity, their presence will help make the library a more teen-friendly place."
