Spurs F-C Tim Duncan most likely will miss no more than a few games after injuring his ankle and knee.
Duncan was hurt against Portland on Sunday, and the team said his MRI exam yesterday came back negative.
He has a sprained right ankle and will miss tomorrow 's game against Dallas, Spurs spokesman Tom James said. The injury will be reassessed this week, and Duncan probably will return in the next few games.
"It's not a big deal at all," James said.
Duncan bruised his right knee and sprained his right ankle during the second quarter. He became entangled with Portland's James Jones and fell near the Spurs' basket with 7 minutes 40 seconds left in the half.
¿ EXTENSION: The Jazz has reached an agreement with Jerry Sloan on a one-year contract extension that will keep the coach on Utah's sideline through the end of next season.
Sloan, 65, who took over the Jazz in 1988, is the franchise's winningest coach and needs just 47 victories to become the first coach in NBA history to win 1,000 games with the same franchise. Utah has reached the NBA Finals twice and won six division titles during Sloan's tenure.
¿ A FATHER DIES: Stephon Marbury played the second half of New York's loss to Phoenix on Sunday night unaware his father had been taken to a hospital, where he died before the game ended.
Don Marbury was taken from Madison Square Garden to St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center during halftime, reportedly because of chest pains, but a family member advised a Knicks official not to inform Stephon Marbury at the time. Stephon Marbury learned of his father's death from a family friend minutes after the game.
¿ SIDELINED: The Raptors were without Fs Chris Bosh (groin) and Andrea Bargnani(knee) and G T.J. Ford (thumb) last night against the Bobcats.
